What is 10-OH?

10-Hydroxy is a molecule extracted from the hemp plant, created during the oxidation of HHC by liver enzymes. It was discovered in the 1980s but wasn't isolated until 2015, thanks to the extraction and subsequent oxidation of hexahydrocannabinol.

The initial hopes placed on this derivative were for greater bioavailability (i.e., better assimilation by the body) and greater therapeutic potential.

This molecule still generates controversy regarding its effects. A priori, this cannabinoid would interact particularly with the  CB1 and CB2 receptors of the endocannabinoid system  of the human body, but would have actions similar to those of THC.

The information we have about 10 OH is based on insufficient research, as well as assumptions and consumer experiences. Remember that HHC, from which it is extracted, has been banned in France since 2023.

Controversy surrounding 10 OH

According to the ANSM, studies have shown that the chemical structure of HHC is similar to that of delta-9 THC, which is classified as a narcotic. Since 10-OH HHC is a derivative of HHC, the question of this molecule's legality arises.

As a reminder, products sold in France must have a THC level below 0.3 % to be legal. If the effects of 10-OH are similar, its sale should logically be banned soon.

Differences between 10 OH and other cannabinoid molecules

Cannabinoid molecules extracted from the hemp plant often have similarities, however their difference in chemical structure gives them differences.

10 OH and CBD are two molecules with anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, but the first one has  psychoactive effects that can alter the perception of reality , unlike CBD.

Compared to THC, this molecule's psychoactive effects are similar, but are lessened by certain side effects such as paranoia and anxiety. Therefore, the experience with 10-OH consumption is milder.
